Product Manager vs Business Analyst
How would you define the functional difference between a Product Manager and a Business Analyst (where the PM sits in the business and the BA sits in the Dev group)?
The funny answer is that product managers write bad requirements and business analysts write good ones. Sadly, that's not only funny but often true. Development organizations hire BAs when product managers in the business units write fluffy, collateral statements like "must be easy to use." Depending on your organization, BAs are creating well-written business requirements or they are writing functional specifications or both.

In any case, we think too many organizations are making this all too hard. We have too many artifacts, too many levels of detail, and too many titles re-doing the work of others. We teach a better, more agile approach to product planning in our Requirements That Work seminar.
