Frequently Asked Questions
What are the benefits of becoming Pragmatic Marketing Certified (PMC)?
Certification is an investment in one’s career and professional advancement. Being certified demonstrates a designated level of knowledge in product management. Certification also allows you to connect with thousands of others in the Pragmatic Marketing Certified LinkedIn Group.
Do certified employees earn more?
Although not an absolute guarantee, studies have shown many certified individuals see a salary increase following certification.
Are there any prerequisites?
Attendance at Practical Product Management is required prior to taking the certification test. No other materials are required. Tests are conducted in English.
What format is used for the test?
The test is administered in a proctored, closed-book, multiple-choice, time-constrained format.
When are test results provided?
Results are e-mailed about three weeks following the test. A certificate is mailed via US Mail to those who pass.
How many times can a test be taken?
The test may be retaken as many times as needed until a passing score is achieved.
Who earns and retains the certification?
The individual who attended the training and passed the test earns the certification, not the company where the individual is employed. If a certified individual leaves a company, the certification is retained by the individual. Also, only the individual can use the PMC title and logo for promotional purposes.
How should I study for the test?
All material in the test is covered in the seminar, additional study is not required. Good notes and a review of the seminar slides (the printed manual) should be sufficient.
How do I register for the test?
Attendees in Practical Product Management will be offered the opportunity to take the test at the end of the seminar, at no charge. Alumni not attending the current seminar can register here for $25 US per person. This fee is non-refundable and non-transferable. Travel arrangements and expenses are the participant's responsibility.
What does certified mean?
Pragmatic Marketing Certified identifies an individual has a certain level of knowledge. It does not designate an individual as being more qualified, experienced or more suitable than others for any product management role or task. It does not:
- substitute for actual product management experience
- teach nor test all that is needed to become a qualified product manager
- provide for actual on-the-job performance testing
